For about three weeks, beating the World Tree boss in Palworld came with a coin flip: either you got your loot and moved on, or the game locked itself into a loading screen that never finished. Pocketpair fixed that with hotfix 1.101.103, which rolled out on Steam on July 30 and hit consoles a day or so later. The patch notes for it are almost insultingly short one line, fixing the infinite loading screen after the World Tree boss but that one line was the difference between finishing the game's marquee new content and staring at a spinner until you alt-F4'd.
That's the kind of bug that doesn't show up in review scores because it hits you after you've already decided you like the game. You've put in the hours, built the automated base, geared up in Pal Metal, fought your way to the actual endgame fight Pocketpair built version 1.0 around and then the game just doesn't let you leave the arena. Multiple outlets and the fan-run patch trackers agree on both the bug and the fix, so there's no real ambiguity here: it happened, it was bad, and it's now handled, at least for the World Tree fight specifically. Whether it fully stamps out every infinite-load edge case on modded or older installs is less clear, but for a vanilla Steam install doing the intended endgame content, this should be a non-issue now.
The Patch Chain, If You've Been Away
If you played Palworld heavily during Early Access and bailed before 1.0, here's the abbreviated version of what you missed and what's since been ironed out:
- 1.0.1 (July 15) - fixed a bug where save data could get discarded during certain operations, plus assorted console freezes.
- 1.0.2 (~July 29) - addressed players getting disconnected en masse during the Panthalus boss fight on dedicated servers, and made performance tweaks to the Sunreach region.
- 1.0.2.100993 - a smaller hotfix aimed specifically at stability for players running mods.1.101.103 (July 30–31) - the World Tree infinite-load fix covered above.
None of these are flashy, but they map onto exactly the kind of pain points you'd expect from a huge, systems-heavy update new zones, new boss fights, new server load shipping to an install base that's still 40 million players deep. Version 1.0 itself launched July 10 with 72 new Pals, the World Tree zone, the Sunreach Sky Islands, a mutations breeding system, an Awakening mechanic, reworked raids, and a level cap bump to 80. That's a genuinely large content drop for what's still technically post-launch support on a game that already left Early Access once as a "finished" product in spirit. It also debuted well: peak concurrent players hit 855,525 on Steam two days after launch, up from 472,769 on day one the biggest Steam launch of 2026 at the time, sitting just below Baldur's Gate 3 in the platform's all-time list.
